Uni Congratulates New Chief ScientistThe University of Adelaide today has welcomed the appointment of Dr Jim Peacock to the prestigious position of Chief Scientist of Australia. Executive Dean of the University’s Faculty of Sciences, Professor Peter Rathjen, says Dr Peacock’s appointment bodes well for the University. “I am delighted by this appointment, and congratulate Dr Peacock on being chosen,” Professor Rathjen says." “Certainly it is good news for the University of Adelaide. Dr Peacock has a distinguished record of research and leadership in an area of great interest to us, plant molecular biology, and I know that he shares similar views to us on the value and importance of basic and applied research to the Australian economy." “Dr Peacock also studied and taught here in the 1960s, and he currently serves on the Advisory Board for Agriculture and Food in the University’s School of Agriculture, Food and Wine." “I wish Dr Peacock all the best in his new role, and look forward to further collaboration between him and the University’s science community.”
