Plant Biotechnology & Genetics
Plant Biotechnology & Genetics
The plant biotechnology cluster within the Discipline of Plant & Food Science at the Waite is composed of world class research scientists ranging from cytogeneticists to molecular biologists. The field of plant biotechnology is still in its infancy with a short history of approximately 25 to 30 years. Since the inception of this research field, we have seen an exponential increase in the development of new technologies. These technologies and the research results captured are already assisting plant breeding programmes here at the Waite and elsewhere globally. The scientists within this cluster at the Waite lead teams that are focused on improving abiotic stress tolerance in cereals, marker-assisted selection in cereals and understanding the mechanics behind cellular processes such as meiosis and plant development.
Jason Able - Genetics of Meiosis in Cereals
Ken Chalmers - Molecular Cereal Breeding
