Plant Physiology

Plant Physioloogy TrialIn an attempt to understand plant function we investigate physiological processes at multiple levels (organelle, cell, tissue, organ and whole plant). The plant physiology cluster at the Waite uses an integrated approach combining a range of novel and established biochemical, electrophysiological, genetic, molecular and physiological assays to explore specific questions. Major research themes include the mechanisms and regulation of ion transport, cell signalling, physiological plant pathology and post-harvest physiology. In particular these themes encompass an interest in nutrient acquisition from the soil, cell specific ion accumulation, the impact of ion changes, redox status and reactive oxygen species (ROS) on plant disease and the mechanisms of ethylene perception in post-harvest fruit and vegetables.
