Further StudiesMany of our students from undergraduate science programs have continued onto further study, with most choosing to undertake a B.Sc. (Honours) Program. The Honours Program involves a major research project, as well as course work and seminars. This program provides you with training in an area of specialisation and will enable you to experience scientific research first hand! The breadth of the training provides a suitable platform for entry into postgraduate work in most areas of agricultural research. Honours graduates from the discipline areas within the School have traditionally had little difficulty in finding career placements. Many of our graduates now hold key positions locally, nationally and overseas in universities, research institutions and companies. Employers both within and outside the scientific field value the analytical and technical skills acquired in the Honours year. Thus it is important to realise that an Honours degree has broader significance than simply being a path to a PhD. If the prospect of becoming an independent research scientist is your goal, then an Honours qualification allows you to directly enrol in a Master of Science (M.Sc.) or more usually, a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program. These programs provide you the opportunity to carry out an original research project and explore in detail an area of Agricultural and Wine Science that fascinates you! A Master of Science will usually take you two years of study and a Doctorate usually takes 3 years. As well as the Honours Program, students have enrolled in the Graduate programs such as the Graduate Diploma in Education. This is a one year, full time program for graduates who wish to train as secondary school teachers or to work with adult learners. Some graduates undertake further studies in business, engineering and postgraduate medicine courses, such as that offered by Flinders University. If you would like to express interest in studying within the School of Agriculture, Food & Wine, or would just like more information on the programs we offer, please go to the enquiries page. |
